The expert confirms your home meets the Effizienzhaus 40 standard and issues the application certificate (BzA). You apply through your bank, before construction starts. The funding comes as a low-interest loan.

And because every BIOBUILDS home is engineered to the Passivhaus standard from day one, the hard part is already built in. We hand your expert the full documentation, so the paperwork stays painless.

The number is the home's primary energy demand versus a reference building. An Effizienzhaus 55 may use up to 55%; an Effizienzhaus 40 only 40%, the more efficient and more strongly funded level.

For the KfW climate-friendly programs, Effizienzhaus 40 also means lifecycle greenhouse-gas limits and no oil, gas, or biomass heating.

Every BIOBUILDS home is built to the Passivhaus standard, designed to surpass the stricter KfW 40 requirements: airtight timber shell, triple glazing, heat-recovery ventilation, and no fossil heating.

KfW 297 (Klimafreundlicher Neubau) funds building or first-buying a climate-friendly home. It is open to private individuals, companies, and other investors.

KfW 300 (Wohneigentum für Familien) is for families with at least one child under 18, and single parents, who will live in the home. The income limit is €90,000 a year for one child, plus €10,000 per additional child.

Both need the Effizienzhaus 40 level with added climate requirements, exactly what a BIOBUILDS home is engineered to hit. Note: for the same home, KfW 300 cannot be combined with KfW 297 or 298.

It is built for it. Every BIOBUILDS home is a certified Passivhaus, one of the world's strictest efficiency standards, and a strong foundation for an Effizienzhaus 40 project.

Eligibility for KfW 297 or 300 still rests on the whole project, not Passivhaus alone: the Effizienzhaus 40 level, lifecycle emissions, the heating system, and your site each have to check out.

The world's strictest energy efficiency standard, developed at the Passive House Institute in Darmstadt, Germany.

Not a design philosophy. An engineering specification, audited line by line. Wall U-value under 0.15 W/m²K. Airtightness under 0.6 air changes per hour at 50 pascals, blower-door tested. Triple-glazed windows under 0.8 W/m²K. Heat recovery ventilation above 75%. Thermal bridges effectively eliminated. Either the building meets the math or it doesn't get certified.

The average European home consumes 350 kWh/m² per year. A new conventional build, around 150. A Passivhaus home sits at 15.
